T-A : Ichijodani Asakura Clan Ruins, Mikawa Sake Brewery Tour

Asakura, one of the Three Cultural Lords of the Warring State Period, built his city in Ichijodani about 430 years ago. In his heyday, the city housed roughly 10,000 people. It was razed by Oda Nobunaga and its remains excavated 400 years later. This site is the only place in Japan where the remains of the entire town from the Warring States Period have been unearthed in their original state.

Fukui's sake is made from fresh/tasty water and nurtured in Fukui's rich, natural environment. It has received national, and even worldwide, praise. There are about 40 sake breweries in Fukui Prefecture. On this tour, you will visit Mikawa Shuzo (Sake Brewery), which has more than 120 years of history. You will have a tour through the brewery facility and sake tasting.

T-B : Seiren Planet, Soba-making Experience Tour

It is a Museum of Astronomy located on the 5th floor of the Happiring Building which is one of the venues of ISTS. You can see a lot of displays mainly related to the space.
It also has the latest type of planetarium where you can view the shining stars over down town Fukui.In this tour, you will watch "Amazing Blue", a science-related film centered on Shakudani Stone, which was mined and utilized in Fukui from the olden days. It discusses the formation of the Japanese archipelago and movement of the earth.
By using a drone, the film offers beautiful bird's-eye views of Fukui City.

The original way of eating soba noodle in Fukui is "Oroshi soba" covered in a healthy portion of grated Japanese radish in cold dashi broth. It is one of Fukui's famous cuisines. You can experience making soba (buckwheat noodle) from scratch using buckwheat flour grown in Fukui Prefecture. This site is located very close to the venues of ISTS.

It is known for the production area of Washi boasting the finest Washi with the greatest amount and variety in Japan. Participants can actually experience papermaking.

Port of Humanity Tsuruga Museum & Akarenga
Port of Humanity Tsuruga Museum displays materials and documents related to Polish orphans rescued in Siberia in 1920 as well as Jewish refugees who fled from Nazi Germany in 1940 carrying "visas for survival" issued by Mr. Chiune Sugihara, an acting consul of Japanese consulate office in Kaunas in the Republic of Lithuania.

Wakasa Wan Energy Research Center
The research equipment that forms the core of this facility is multi-purpose synchrotron and tandem accelerators. These accelerators' distinguishing feature is their ability to accelerate a number of electrically charged particles (ions) such as hydrogen, helium and carbon from a low energy domain by combining the two types of accelerators, the tandem and the synchrotron, making them usable for a wide range of applications including industry, agriculture, forestry, fishing, and medicine.

Varve Museum
Lake Suigetsu is an internationally important wetland, and was registered in the Ramsar Convention in 2005. Through the accumulation of sediment over 70,000 years, striped patterns called "varves" have formed at the bottom of this lake.Research on these varves is attracting attention from inside Japan and around the world as a global standard measurement. The research exhibition facility open 2018 is visited.

Seiren is the comprehensive textile manufacturer which represents Japan. The history of this company is about 130 years. Seiren pursue various high value-added corporate activities over the five business fields, i.e., automotive interior, high fashion, electronics, environment & life materials, and medical. The accumulated technique is now expanding to various fields. As an example, Seiren are developing advanced micro satellites with Tokyo University, then they are leading Fukui Prefectural Satellite project.

As the symbolic project to develop industry in Fukui, Fukui Prefectural Satellite will be manufactured in Fukui and launched on a Soyuz-2 in the second or third quarter of 2020. Fukui Prefectural Government has deployed facility to test microsatellite at Prefectural Industrial Technology Center.

T-F : Daihonzan Eiheiji, Dinosaur Museum Tour

Eiheiji Temple is a Soto Zen training monastery established in 1244 by Dogen Zenji, the founder of Soto Zen Buddhism in Japan. It has about seventy buildings of various size inside the precincts. This temple was listed with two stars in "Michelin Green Guide Japan" in 2015, a famous French travel guidebook.

Many dinosaur fossils have been discovered in Fukui Prefecture. The Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is located in Katsuyama City, one of three biggest dinosaur museums in the world.Today, it is an exclusive spot that distinctly represents Fukui Prefecture, as over 900,000 visitors come per year and visitors can also excavate for fossils.

Overview of FIR Center
The Research Center for Development of Far-Infrared Region at the University of Fukui (“FIR UF”, or “FIR Center”) is performing research and development in the far-infrared region. The far-infrared (FIR), i.e., terahertz (THz), frequency region is between the radio frequency (RF) region and the infrared region. The electromagnetic (EM) waves in the FIR/THz wave region can propagate in straight lines as light waves and penetrate materials as RF waves. The FIR/THz wave region has long been regarded as an unexplored region because of the lack of powerful sources. Rapid and great progress is expected regarding the FIR region in the very near future. The FIR UF has developed a novel high power far-infrared source called "Gyrotron" and is conducting the research and development of new technologies using these world-class machines. The FIR UF is also performing research on THz science, developing novel methods of THz wave generation and new THz spectroscopic techniques. The FIR UF is now a leading research base for FIR/THz waves in Japan. The FIR UF collaborates with domestic and overseas institutions in worldwide research activities. The center aims to fulfill its role as a world-class base for research on FIR/THz waves. Their research on high-frequency gyrotrons and the development of new FIR/THz spectroscopic techniques attracts considerable attention from around the world.

The Research Center for Development of Far-Infrared Region at the University of Fukui (FIR UF or FIR Center)

Gyrotron FU CW GV: A multifrequency gyrotron for operation over the frequency range from 162 to 265 GHz at frequencies separated by steps of approximately 10 GHz.
