Message from the 31st General Chairperson

As the general chairperson of the 31st International Symposium on Space Technology and Science(ISTS), I would like to warmly invite you to attend the 31st ISTS in Matsuyama-city of Ehime-prefecture, Japan from June 3rd to 9th, 2017. The committee will provide you a comfortable conference venue and good opportunities to discuss on space-related topics. More than one thousand participants attended in the recent ISTSs. The committee is expecting that many participants will attend the 31st ISTS and enjoy their staying in Matsuyama.

Matsuyama is well-known as the birthplace of Japanese modern literature. Specially, modern short poem, “haiku”, is very popular in Matsuyama. Cuckoo, “Hototogisu”, is a keyword to call the group that created the modern “haiku”. Also many famous novel writers were born and had grown in Matsuyama. They left from their nest and discovered the new Japanese culture.

The main theme of the 31st ISTS is “Open up a new age of space discovery –Space cuckoo flies to new space frontier from Matsuyama-”. New space exploration projects and new research results will be presented by engineers and scientists in the 31st ISTS. It is very good opportunity to see the new age of space discovery.

ISTS has also played great roles of growing students since the beginning of ISTS, 1959. Many students attended the ISTSs and grew up the leaders of new space activities. I am expecting many students to attend the 31st ISTS and leave the nest and create a new age of space technology and science. Please attend the 31st ISTS and find a space cuckoo.
